The ski area is the reason most people first come to Winter Park. Summer is often the reason they stay.
Month by month
- June. Snow lingers up high. Trestle opens mid-month, on June 12 in 2026, and the valley turns green.
- July. Peak summer: bike park, wildflowers, festivals and busy weekends.
- August. Warm days, afternoon thunderstorms, the best riding conditions.
- September. Cooler mornings, the aspens turn gold, and Trestle closes at the end of the month: September 27 in 2026.
Western mountain resorts saw summer bookings rise in 2026 while winter bookings fell. Occupancy on the books for May to October was up 4% on the year in April 2026 (Park Record).
Trestle Bike Park
Trestle is the reason Winter Park is a summer destination for riders. It has over 40 miles of lift-served downhill trails, from beginner flow trails to steep, technical lines (Trestle Bike Park).

New riders can take a beginner group lesson (ages 7+) or a private session, and rent bikes and gear at the base. Trestle also runs the Trestle Gravity Series races through the summer.
Trails, rivers and the valley
- The Fraser River Trail runs between Fraser and the resort: an easy riverside walk or ride, and dogs are welcome on a leash.
- Hiking and cross-country riding spread out across the valley and the national forest around it. The Winter Park Visitor Center and Headwaters Trails Alliance in Fraser have maps.
- Up the mountain, the Lodge at Sunspot has a restaurant and bar, and often hosts live music.
Events
Summer weekends in Winter Park fill with live music at Hideaway Park, farmers' markets, art walks and festivals. Check Visit Winter Park's events calendar for this year's dates.
Getting around free
- Parking. Winter Park Resort doesn't charge for parking in summer, including the Village Parking Garage (resort parking).
- The Lift. The free local bus runs June to October between Fraser, Winter Park and Granby (The Lift).
Mud season, honestly
The weeks either side of summer are quiet. After the lifts close in mid-April, snow turns to mud and many trails are closed or unrideable until June. In October and early November the town empties again before ski season. Some restaurants and shops reduce hours or close for part of both. Lodging is at its cheapest, and it's a good time to live here and a poor time to visit.

The club in summer
An annual membership at the U9200 Alpine Club gives year-round access, not just ski season. In summer the club is a base for Trestle days and valley rides: the patio with firepits and a grill, the slope-side hot tub, showers after a muddy lap, and a workspace with internet for the days you have to work.
